Four fellowship positions are available each year. The fellowship commences on August 1 and covers 12 consecutive months of service, which consist of four three-month rotations: Service under Dr. Gerard A. Engh, Dr. C. Anderson Engh, Dr. William G. Hamiltion, and Dr. Kevin B.Fricka.

The fellow is involved in the pre-, intra-, and postoperative management of joint replacement patients, as well as research through AORI research facilities.

Requirements
Candidates for the fellowship must have completed an orthopaedic residency program, be eligible for the Boards of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and have a Virginia medical license prior to the commencement of the fellowship. Foreign medical graduates will be considered, provided that they have passed either the Foreign Medical Graduate Exam or the FLEX Exam, and have a Virginia medical license. The State of Virginia requires foreign medical graduates to have two years of accredited post-graduate training in the USA or Canada prior to applying for licensure in Virginia.
